For years now, I had a note near me, either in a small piece of paper or on my phone that says “DrRay.org, coming soon”. Today, I took the leap of faith and finally begin construction on my dream educational website.
Educating students on STEM topics has become more difficult over the years, and is expected to become more difficult if there will be no change in the modality of delivery. In theory, the Internet and digital tools as supplements to classroom instruction are supposed to make learning easier, if you have access to them. Anyone has access to a lot of information in the web, but its unstructured nature requires an additional skill of sifting through everything and organizing content to turn into knowledge. Gone are the days when we can expect all students to flourish with minimal instruction and cluttered information. Platforms that curate information and integrate interactive elements and tools in an easy-to-digest format will allow anyone to learn anything, anywhere. Make it free for everyone, and this becomes the dream. This is my dream.
Granted, this is currently not in any way unique nor innovative; countless platforms currently exist catering to the needs of students for asynchronous online education, some are free while some are behind a paywall. The differentiation of my platform is not yet clear, even to me. How this site compares to all the other established learning sites should become apparent soon, I just need some time to build this. Since this is a leap of faith, I am hoping that transformative solutions will come to me (eventually) and the continuous improvement of this site will one day lead to one special learning platform that will help anyone, anywhere, for free, forever.
I’m overwhelmed by the task ahead of me; building this can never be easy, but as they say, great things take time. Rome was not built in a day. It will take some time before this platform becomes remotely functional. I can only hope for a miracle for this to go the way I want it to go; but I am hopeful nevertheless. I will work very hard for this.
Follow me on this journey, on this leap of faith, and let’s hope for the best.
